Policies:
The Veteran’s Fund employs a top-down investment process that begins with macro-economic challenges to uniform the portfolio allocation strategy. Within specific stock sectors, the stock selection process is a multistep process with the objective of identifying stocks that (a) satisfy basic filters designed to limit the universe of investments under consideration to profitable firms which are likely to have attractive valuations (b) are undervalued by detailed fundamental and relative valuation methodologies and (c) are consistent with the risk profile adopted by the fund’s quantitative investment.
Student Engagement:
Student analyst teams are assigned to particular economic sectors and conduct fundamental valuation of candidate investments. Fundamental valuation consists of an analysis of the firm’s performance and relative….Based on discounted free cash flows to the portfolio management teams. The student analysts present a detailed competitive analysis, including a description of the industry, the firm’s strengths and weaknesses, the relationship of the firm’s performance to the current economic environment, and a target value based on their fundamental analysis. After discussion and debates, decisions are made by majority vote.
